Christmas is all about getting together with friends and family, and now as we hit December, planning and prep for the big day is in full swing.  We are on hand to help you plan the perfect festive feast with our suggestions for simple small bites, to our favourite alternative main event dishes.  With our help, you will certainly be able to pull off a show stopper and wow your guests this Christmas and New Year.

Breakfast

It’s a no brainer… the best way to start Christmas Day in our opinion, is with delicious, fresh smoked salmon and free range scrambled eggs – a total classic that’s nice and light so it will set you up without overly filling you up.  And of course, it’s best served with a glass of fizz – well, it is Christmas after all!

Why not treat yourself and order our fresh smoked salmon for the occasion?

Party pleasers

Small bites and canapes are perfect for serving at your Christmas and New Years Eve parties and won’t take up all of your time with the preparation either.  Delicious canapes are also great to serve before your Christmas dinner to really whet the appetites.  Our favourites include:

Prawn vol-au-vent (we are bringing this retro classic back!); Devilled hens egg; Salt hake croquette with mustard mayonnaise; and of course, smoked salmon blinis – a small bite of pure luxury with our fresh smoked salmon, creme fraiche and a sprinkle of caviar (which you can also purchase from us).

The starter

We have everything you need to start your fishmas feast with dishes to suit every budget…

Prawn cocktail – you can’t go wrong with this Christmas classic, it’s  a guaranteed crowd pleaser and super quick and easy to prepare too.

Oysters – we can’t think of anything better than to start the feast off with the fresh taste of the sea.  We like to enjoy our oysters with a little lemon or shallot vinegar, but they are equally as delicious straight up.

‘Seacuterie’ board – create your own platter of fishy goodness for a light starter guaranteed to please.  We like our platter to include Yellowfin tuna ham; Scottish salmon pastrami and Newlyn monkfish pancetta, served with pickled cucumber and crunchy bread on the side.  If you would like ideas on how to create your own ‘seacuterie’ board, pop by and visit our fish counter for advice.

Shellfish platter – Bring the experience of Fish Union straight to your home with our shellfish platter.  This standout party piece is easy to prepare yourself, or, the best bit is, you can simply unbox and serve our freshly prepared boxed platter and take all of the credit (we won’t tell if you don’t!). Our platter brings a ready to serve selection of six oysters, half a native lobster, dressed crab, langoustines, Atlantic prawns, steamed mussels and clams.  Or to indulge in the taste of pure luxury, you could opt for our Fish Union Luxury platter, consisting of 12 Oysters; 2 Hand dived scallops with house made coral butter; Whole dressed Native lobster and a bottle of Coates & Seely Brut Reserve to wash it down perfectly, its ideal for parties and New Years Eve celebrations.

The main event

Move over turkey, we have brought some new dishes to town this Christmas for an alternative, healthy main course…

Ocean roast – Let us do the hard work for you with our ocean roast box… enjoy our catch of the day lightly marinated in lemon, garlic and parsley with a delicious shrimp and shellfish sauce; yorkie batter, roast potatoes, tender stem broccoli; vichy carrots and easy to follow cooking instructions card.

Tuna Wellington – our favourite dish which we will be serving at home on Christmas Day! Yellowfin tuna coated in a delicious mushroom puree, wrapped in nori seaweed and encrusted in puff pastry. It’s delicious served with buttered vichy carrots, tenderstem broccoli, creamy mashed potato and our shellfish gravy.

You can make this dish yourself and save yourself time by preparing this dish the day before ahead of your guests arriving. Or, make your life even easier by purchasing it from us, just unbox, cook and enjoy!

Whole dressed lobster – delicious cold or warmed under the grill.  We like to enjoy ours roasted with garlic butter and take our time to enjoy the flavours and shell cracking – a taste of pure luxury.
